Inhale the good stuff. Exhale the bullshit.
Breath is life. One of my teachers used to say 'Breath is the Art of Living'. Meaning to say that most people don't realise how much effect breath can have on our everyday life, and to which extent we can enhance it, by mastering our breath.
It is a common fact that most people only use 30% of their breath capacity. When we breath in that way, it means we are solely engaging our neck, shoulders, collar bones and the top of our lungs. Apart from the lungs, none of these body parts were designed to breath. When we start breathing in a healthy, natural way, we incorporate our diaphragm into our breath wave (belly-breathing). We breath in and out through the nose. When we breath in this fashion, our entire body becomes a part of our breath wave, and we are constantly signalling to our brain that it can relax and that we are safe. Breath awareness of the natural breath, which is the Yin quality of breathwork, a sense of being rather than a doing, is the first step in creating a healthy, beneficial breathing pattern.
Pranayama is a part of the Yang quality of breathwork, Conscious Breathing, where we consciously do certain breathing exercises to enhance our living. It is also called Yogic Breathing, as the Pranayama exercises are part of the Yogic Philosophy, which originates from ancient India.
The aim of Pranayama is spiritual development. It is part of the Yogic path and strives towards self-realisation, to discover the truth of who you are. Even though the practice is done through breathing exercises, during Pranayama we are actually focussed on Prana, our vital life energy, which is a bit more subtle than breath. Through Pranayama we can prepare the body mind for concentration and meditation.
Circular Breathing is a part of therapeutic breathwork. It is very different from Pranayama in the sense that it is modern, new and Western; it originated in the US in the '60ties, simultaneously with the psychedelic moment.
Circular breathing is a therapeutic technique, that allows you to enter into a process where that which is unconscious in you may come into the light - to be seen and reviewed. It enables you to be both the experiencer as the observer simultaneously. When we consciously breathe with this awareness, we make it possible to resolve, integrate and heal previously unresolved tensions or issues within ourselves. This frees up energy, bringing greater aliveness and joy, and feeling spacious in body and mind.
During this technique, we remove the pauses between the in- and exhalation and the ex- and inhalation. Our breathing then becomes circular, without any intermissions. Both the in- and out-breath are done through the mouth. The technique can be practiced during a 1-on-1 breathing session or with a group in a breathing circle.
I breathe, therefore I am.
We offer a diverse range of workshops and classes for businesses, aimed towards overall health and vitality in our place of work.
We offer both one-of events and programs in which we focus on yoga, movement, meditation and breathwork to cultivate a healthy, conscious corporate life. Central during these programs is the maintenance and recovery of your employees fysical and mental well being. We can also help to support changes in the work place and optimise collaboration.
During a conference, guests usually need to proces a lot of information during the course of 1 day. In order to effectively listen to speeches for long periods of time, it can be very beneficial to offer short breathwork and meditation practices during the breaks.
To ensure guests are still able to proces all the information given to them, even after 2 or 3 different speeches, it can be very beneficial to offer short practices of breathwork or meditation, in order to momentarily drop from the mind into the body and to make space for new information. This will enable everyone to stay fresh and full of inspiration, even during a full program.
The breath is the voice of your soul.
Because you know it's all about the base, 'bout that base, no trouble.
Shakti Yoga is a yoga and meditation practice that focusses on the entire area of the female reproductive organs, also known as Yoni.
The practice is aimed towards the entire area of the female reproductive organs; the uterus, ovaries, vagina, labia, perineum, pelvic floor and sacrum. During this workshop we focus all our attention on this area and practice the strengthening and relaxing of the pelvic floor. We also use dance and movement as a way to cultivate feminine energy, and include Yogic dance, shaking, breathwork and meditation.

Growing up in many different countries, I’ve always felt somewhat of a nomad, a wanderer, and in a way uncentered. Around 2008, a search for grounding led me to yogic philosophy and the start of a Raja Yoga Teacher Training in 2009. Somehow when studying and practising this wisdom, it felt as though I was getting a glimpse of the deeper essence of life, it all made so much sense. After a year I decided to make my practice a bit more physical and continued with a Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. During this training I was introduced to the Ayurvedic Principles, Massage and Prana.
Upon concluding this 3-year training, I moved to Chile and started my teaching practice in Santiago. When I returned to Amsterdam I completed a Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Anat Geiger in 2015. Over the last 2 years, a growing interest and passion for the breath and Prana has led me to become a certified breath coach and I am now in the midst of a Pranayama Teacher Training. I teach Yin, Hatha, Pranayama and Circular Breathing. Inspired by the teachings of Adyashanti and Eckhart Tolle, I focus my classes on breathing in motion, soft qigong movements, pranayama and meditation. And mostly to keep a sense of grounding and humor in the way we approach things that happen both on and off our meditation cushion. I hope to meet you in a class or workshop!
Besides breathbase I've been working in film and documentary production since 2011. If you'd like to have a look at some previous work, check it out via LinkedIn.
